Teachers as Life Learners

As educators, we should always be open to further our learning throughout our entire teaching career. It is no doubt that our program, BPS, values the importance of reflection and growth. In my first year at Teachers College, I have gained the understanding that writing self-reflections benefit my self-growth as a person and an educator. These personal reflections are used to document my developing knowledge as an educator.      A great way to showcase my growth and knowledge as an educator is through a digital teaching portfolio,  also known as a multimedia portfolio or an eportfolio. Students as Inventors

Using physical and digital technologies in today's classrooms provides students with opportunities and new experiences that promote problem solving and inquiry-based learning. "Problem solving and inquiry- based learning refer to educational activities in which students ask questions, make predictions, test theories and revise ideas based on data and evidence" (Maloy et al., 2021, p. 741). Teachers are able to use "real-world situations and issues to actively stimulate students' wonder and curiosity" (Maloy et al., 2021, p.742). Students' interests are at the centre of creating engaging and interactive learning experiences for all. "Incorporating students' interests makes problem solving an engaging instructional approach to learning at every grade" (Maloy et al., 2021, p. 742).      This week I had the oppo...

Academic Content (What to Teach)

"Every teacher is an instructional designer, responsible for organizing, delivering, and assessing learning activities with students in the classroom" (Maloy et al., 2021, p.373). As educators, it is our responsibility to teach and deliver the Ontario Curriculum to our students. Every teacher decides what learning goals, teaching methods and what instructional practices or pedagogical approaches they use within a lesson.      Using technology in our classrooms can motivate students to become more engaged in their own learning. Educators are able to make decisions on what to teach based on  curriculum expectations and the learning needs and strengths of their students. By incorporating technology in their instruction and lessons, educators build on student's existing skills while using technology. Students are so advanced when it comes to technology these days.                        ...
